THE Worcester Safari Tour: Game drive, Wine, Food, Art and Music....
The Welly's Transport picked us up at the Golden Valley Casino and drove through the beautiful Brandwacht Valley to the Fairy Glen Game Reserve, which is situated at the foothills of the Brandwacht mountains with the three Audensberg peaks towering over us.After enjoying a tasty breakfast accompanied by Aande Doorns Cellar’s lovelysparkling wine, we were taken for a game drive where we met our big friends, elephant, the not-to-be-messed with African buffalo (or Cape buffalo), gracious springbok, obesezebra, cuddly-but-not-to-be-cuddled lions, blue wildebeest and rhinos.
After the game drive we travelled to the Overhex Bistro on the R60, for a very tasty red onion and brie tart snack, accompanied by Overhex's Survivor Chenin Blanc wine. What an excellent pairing! This wine has lots of depth and must be enjoyed respectfully! The warm welcome of the hardworking team at the bistro was very professional and we learned a lot about this cellar and their award winning wines, which is exported to about 30 countries. Thank you Overhex Wines!
Original, colourful and interesting paintings of four Worcester artists awaited us at Nuy Valley Guest house. The artwork led us into the garden and hall where the remarkable singing group, Rejoice, took us on a musical journey by performing a variety of memorable and famous classical pieces. Afterwards we enjoyed the main course of the day: traditional oxtail stew paired with ConradiePenhill wines.
And what's for dessert? was the first question after the delicious oxtail stew and ConradiePenhill red wine at Nuy Valley Guest house. We drove to 'Nuy...on the Hill Restaurant' and the answer was: Chocolates! Five different specially hand-created Belgium chocolates paired with 4 Nuy Cellar wines and Nuy Brandy...accompanied by different music with each tasting made this pairing a fantastic sensory integration that will linger in our minds for a long time...
Plans for another Worcester Wine and Olive Route Safari areon the drawing board and will include the internationally awarded Willow Creek Olive Estate, a wine cellar with a spectacular view and a 4 x 4 trail.
